Artist Statement:
“As humans we cannot live without water and we are constantly drawn to any surface that repeats its motions. Glass mimics water in both its liquid and solid states; bubbling, undulating, colorful or colorless and able to be formed in any shape we can conceive. I work to harness the natural characteristics of glass and couple them with a brilliant color palette to create effects that draw the viewer in on several levels.”
Artist Biography:
I’ve always been fond of quotes and there are two that characterize my transition from 30 years in advertising and special event management to full-time artist:
“Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.”
Chinese Proverb
and
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
George Elliot
The arts have always been a source of joy in my life. Whether singing, dancing, acting, writing, or creating tangible art – I have always been some form of artist. So, it was inevitable that I would finally stop trying to fit my “round peg self” into the “square hole” of the 9 to 5 world and launch myself into a career expressing myself artistically.
Travels through France, Switzerland, Turkey, and Mexico fueled my creative energy. Each culture had some distinct design elements I wanted to capture artistically, but I wasn’t sure what medium to use to express myself. I stumbled over the answer while traveling through Mexico in 2000 when I was attracted to a unique collection of fused and sand-cast art glass and I knew immediately I had found my direction.
Upon returning to the states, I enrolled in my first fused glass class. Subsequently, I went on to seek instruction in more advanced kiln-forming techniques from noted national instructors Newy Fagan, Phil Teefy, and Brad and Jody Danner Walker.
What continues to engage me with this medium is the possibility of continual experimentation with new techniques. My art exists in a constant state of evolution.
I have been showing my work in galleries around Arizona for the last three years and have acquired a following. Many of my pieces are held in private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
