Welcome to J Binder Designs – Kiln-Fired Art Glass
There is a certain “personality” to every fused glass piece I create because they are all one-of-a-kind and handmade. (Even the glass I use is hand-rolled in Portland, Oregon).
Whether I am creating a piece to fit the niche’ in a living room or a business setting, I strive to capture the innate beauty of the glass itself.
I hope you’ll enjoy my gallery of fused glass creations. My work is constantly evolving and included here are a few examples that represent my current pieces. Please visit often to view updates.
Purchase and Custom Order Information
Any custom designed fused glass piece can add an artistic flair to a functional item. Your imagination is the only limitation.

The Process
Fused glass predates glass blowing and, up until the last hundred years was a lost art. The earliest man-made glass was produced more than 2000 years ago before the founding of the Roman Empire. By 1500 B.C. craftsmen in Mesopotamia and Egypt were making brightly colored vessels. The Romans developed the art of glass blowing as a way of speeding up the production of glass art.
I use a variety of techniques to create my pieces; many of them include design elements that I have taken down to a molten stage with a torch and reshaped while the glass is cooling (much like the blown glass process). Sometimes, I create a block of color from a collage of glass types and then cut and reassemble it as design elements within a piece. Most of my work requires at least two and often three firings at 1480 degrees Fahrenheit.
